Dead children are also well behaved.

"Crying it out" : teaching our children to be well behaved by means of child neglect.

Please note: This post is currently being written, read at your own risk

"One of the keys to this education is the simple act of learning how to wait. It is why the French babies I meet mostly sleep through the night from two or three months old. Their parents don't pick them up the second they start crying, allowing the babies to learn how to fall back asleep."
From the WSJ article :Why French Parents Are Superior
Of course they're "well behaved". They come to know that their parents won't comfort and care for them in times of need.

Sleeping through the night isn't a sign of a well behaved baby, but a sign of a neglected baby.

We've all read the horror stories of the Russian children put up for adoption who are incapable of human emotion, crying it out is nothing more than a mild version of the same.

What is being done is a deadening of the soul, as opposed to a natural correction of the soul necessitated by fallen nature.

What we are called to do is to correct ourselves and our children because our appetites are not fully under control. But what crying it out does is not correction or curbing of the appetites, but a destruction of the appetites.

Commenting at my own risk before the post is finished . . .

Other "well behaved" children include the infants and toddlers dropped off at daycare in Norway. They spend the first couple of weeks screaming when their mothers leave them, and then, in the words of a day care employee, they just "give up." Lesson learned.
